In Memory
A rememberance from Ed Gougeon: "My dad is the youngest sibling in his family and his sister Lorraine Aykroyd (mom to Dan Aykroyd) is the oldest. This of course makes me Dan's cousin. And for years Danny has always been a class act, spreading the wealth with his family and always inviting us to cool events and stuff we would never have been privy to were we not related. Many years ago Danny held his 39th birthday (July 1st/Canada Day) at a compound he enjoys just outside of Kingston Ontario Canada. That day I met Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Steve Martin and one very funny and equally large John Candy. I remember that despite all of the commotion and the general excitement of the occasion, John sat down with me and shot the breeze about He-Man, My Tae Kwon Do lessons, how much I liked using Danny's jet-ski and any number of things that quite frankly, I wouldn't have been able to sit through were I the position that he was in my life today. Looking back I recall a genuine person, full of humility. I've just recently begun to really get into my stand up comedy and I cringe at the opportunities that I would have had to grill some of the worlds greatest comic minds. Alas, I was a stupid kid."
A rememberance from Ian Wilson as told by Cory Mack (Ian's wife): "As a nineteen/twenty year old, Ian was the stage technician at the Banff Centre and John was at the Banff TV fest and the rules indicated he couldn't smoke in his dressing room. Turns out John didn't have any smokes either. So John spent the majority of his day, on the loading dock, bumming smokes from my bemused husband to be - who reportedly would only give him a smoke if he told him a funny story. Both funny, kind generous men wiled away an entire day." |
