Excerpt from Mickey's obituary: Roderick Vance Woytowich (stage name Mickey Rush) passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 1994 in Calgary, AB at the age of 26 years. Born September 29, 1968 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the youngest of four brothers. Rod attended St. James School in Regina, Father Vachon and St. Mark's Elementary Schools in Saskatoon and graduated from E. D. Feehan in Saskatoon in 1986. Rod aslo served as Alter Boy at St. George's Cathedral.
Rod had a great sense of humour and loved to entertain people and make them laugh, so after winning Yuk Yuk's STV Search for Canada's Funniest New Comic in Saskatoon in 1990 and going on to win 2nd place at the Nationals in Toronto that same year, Rod chose a career with Yuk Yuk's Comedy Troupe. Rod lived in Toronto, ON for two years before moving to Calgary, AB.
During this time Rod (Mickey Rush) travelled throughout Canada and the United States bringing joy and laughter to the lives of many. Rod was very thoughtful, independent, strong-willed and determined to reach his goal. Though we did not always understand the decisions Rod chose to make in his life, we know that he knew what he wanted and worked hard to achieve his dreams. Rod was very easy going and lovable and made numerous friends wherever he went. In his spare time, Rod loved to spend time at the family cabin at Diefenbaker Lake relaxing, writing and fishing. Rod brightened our days and filled our lives with more love than we could possibly imagine. We will miss his radiant smile, his contagious laugh and his warm hugs. Rod is greatly loved and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Good Fishin' Rod!
